We hold a high view of Scripture and believe that through it God makes his will and his person known. One third of our study units are focused entirely on reading the biblical text and other study units – whether in theology, church ministry, or mission practice – are robustly based on a close examination of the Bible.
All the staff at Tilsley have a deep commitment to world mission. Many of them have spent decades in cross-cultural mission practice and know firsthand the challenges to be faced. Being part of Gospel Literature Outreach links us to an international mission network stretching from Europe to Africa, Australia to Indonesia and New Zealand to South America. We also have close partnerships with other Mission Service Groups. “International” is part of who we are; mission shapes all that we do.
Our students are assigned to practical placements in youth, children’s and social ministry settings. They participate in team evangelism opportunities as well as cross-cultural mission experiences. A practical field term tailored to the student’s own personal interests and ministry skills is part of the overall course structure. Students will be helped to discover, develop and use their spiritual gifts.
An effective Christian life is marked by healthy relationships. In Tilsley College we recognise the need to grow in our relationship with God and with one another as members of the church of the Lord Jesus Christ. Each day, time is given to collective college devotions often led by the students themselves, but personal devotions and spiritual growth are also encouraged through a mentoring programme. A mentor will meet regularly with each student offering them prayer support and someone to confide in for the duration of the course. The college is also keen to maintain good relationships with local churches, being aware of the key role they play in training and moulding an individual. Students are assigned to a local church where they can enjoy fellowship, make new friends and participate in the life of the church.
Staff and students at Tilsley mix freely which encourages a close community with family-like relationships of Christian love and understanding.
